Late January this year 31-year-old Roxana Saberi who holds an Iranian and US dual citizenship was arrested in Iran for working without press credentials and allegedly spying for the United States. Roxana was produced before an Iranian court on Monday and the case was disposed off in an unusually swift trial, at the end of which she was convicted of spying for the US and sentenced to eight years in prison. The US has rubbished the charge as baseless and has said the arrest and conviction of Saberi could strain an already strained Indo-US relation. The US severed diplomatic relationship with Iran after the takeover of the US embassy in Teheran following the Islamic revolution in 1979.
